Bronchial Asthma Treatment in Hyderabad
Recurrent wheeze, cough and breathlessness from inflamed, over-reactive airways, treated by lowering the underlying reactivity while inhaler cover continues.
Also known as: Dama · Asthma · Reactive airway disease
1. Symptoms you may notice
- Wheezing or a whistling sound in the chest, often worse at night or early morning
- A dry cough that will not settle, particularly after exertion, cold air or dust
- Tightness in the chest and breathlessness that comes in episodes
- Symptoms that follow a season, a pet, dust, smoke or a respiratory infection
2. How Unani medicine understands it
Unani medicine treats asthma as a cold, moist derangement of the lungs with accumulation of viscid phlegm narrowing the passages, and directs treatment at thinning and clearing that matter, warming the chest, and reducing the airway's tendency to react. Because the reactivity is the recurring problem, the protocol is preventive and is not a substitute for rescue medication.
3. What treatment involves
- History of pattern, triggers, and every inhaler and tablet currently in use
- Expectorant and bronchodilator formulations, with warming chest preparations
- Immunomodulatory treatment aimed at lowering airway reactivity between episodes
- Identification and removal of household triggers — bedding, damp, smoke, incense, pets
- A clear instruction that the reliever inhaler stays with you throughout treatment
4. Therapies used in this protocol
When to seek urgent care instead
These are not reasons to book an appointment. If any of them applies to you, go to a hospital or call emergency services now — our clinic is not the right place for them and delay causes harm.
- Breathlessness so severe you cannot complete a sentence, or lips and fingertips turning blue — call for emergency help
- A reliever inhaler that is no longer working, or is needed every few hours
- Drowsiness, exhaustion or a silent chest during an attack

Frequently Asked Questions
Will I be able to stop using my inhaler?
Do not plan on it at the start, and never stop a preventer or reliever inhaler because treatment has begun. The aim is to reduce how often you need it by lowering the underlying reactivity, and reductions — if they happen — are decided by the physician after a period of genuinely stable symptoms. An asthma attack without a reliever to hand is a life-threatening situation.
Is asthma treatment safe for children?
Children are assessed and dosed differently, and paediatric cases are seen with that in mind. Their inhaled medication continues exactly as prescribed while Unani treatment addresses the reactivity, and parents are given explicit written instructions about what to do during an attack rather than being left to judge.
How long does a course take?
Preventive treatment for asthma is measured in months, not weeks, because what is being changed is how the airway responds. Most patients are reviewed monthly, and progress is judged on attack frequency, night symptoms and how often the reliever is used.
